“We’ve been to Captain Jake’s approximately 4 or 5 times. It never fails to fulfill our needs…As a pre movie weekday dining spot … just across the street from Downing Street theater ..We invariably show up at happy hour offering bargain drinks only if you sit at the bar but not at the table….. The calming Hudson River view while sipping a “Dark & Stormy” or one bar’s other exotic cocktails served to enhance our better than average seafood fare.
We have always enjoyed the west coast or east coast oysters …..whichever are available ….Last night we ordered a one and a half pound lazy man’s lobster in a casserole for $27 …..a 2 pounder will cost you approximately 36 dollars comes with risotto and or some other vegetable… Dessert choices were sparse last night so we ordered none..Dan, our waiter was informative prompt and courteous throughout the meal further enhancing the evening..
Last night the bar with a bit noisier than usual, because of some loud cackling females who didn’t realize anybody else existed but themselves … Our waiter commiserated with us but what can you do…. Life is never perfect even on the Hudson River.”

“Captain jakes is a nice choice on the Newburgh waterfront, food is consistently good, my go-to choices are the beet salad, wings, and crab cakes but nothing I’ve tried has ever been disappointing. The bar offers good drinks and a good happy hour. The staff are all friendly and attractive, my favorite waitress is Claire, always a delightful addition to captain jakes”
Babette and Dirk N. / Chicago, IL:
“The ambiance is an expected nautical theme, but is rounded out with a beautiful view of the Hudson River harbor just outside. At night, twinkling lights from nearby Beacon across the river add to the somehow comfy mystique of the area.
Fabulous raw platter consisting of fresh jumbo shrimp, oysters and clams. The waitress graciously brought us two additional oysters when we realized there were 10 instead of the promised 12 from the menu description. Our sea scallop dish came replete with a scrumptious risotto and ultra-green broccoli side.
Everything was washed down with a reliable 2009 Vouvray. Our waitress Patti was accommodating and friendly despite having to cater to most of the clientele there tonight. All in all, this is definitely recommended. Ask for Patti!”
Gene O. / Monroe, NY:
“Went to Captain Jakes on a Tuesday around 7 and they immediately sat us at a table outside with a good view. Both the Swordfish and Lobster Fettuccine were really good.
Service seemed pretty good at the beginning but seemed to get slow towards the end when we wanted to pay. When we could finally leave it looked as if the staff was having their dinner and that was probably the reason behind the slow service at the end of the night.
We will probably go here again and would recommend to a friend.”
Mike P. / Middletown, NY:
“We were pleasantly surprised. My wife has a passion for lobster rolls ( we have taken a sat. Ride to Rhode Island to get one) I saw this menu on line so we went and this is the real deal knuckle and claw meat tossed with a little mayo on a buttered grilled New England style hot dog bun. All was as it should be fresh chilled lobster warm buttery bun but the kicker is you get 2 on the plate for market price which was 19.95 with a side and slaw a bargain to boot.
We also had a shrimp cocktail you choose the number you want 3.50 each for a very very large shrimp served on ice with a good cocktail sauce ( could of used more horseradish for my taste) .
We split the lobster rolls more than enough for us we choose a salad with balsamic dressing as our side which was great and an oniony cole slaw which was also very good. We had a glass of Pinot Grigio and a vodka gimlet which brought the bill to about 45.00 worth every Penney. If there was a down side I would say the desert menu seems to be an after thought . The service was polite and efficient the view was spectacular.
We will be back and I suggest you go.”
Ro K. / Newburgh, NY:
“My husband and I frequent here and at times bring company to try the muscles in the red sauce which everyone is a fan of.
The lobster roll sandwich I like. The view is outstanding and so is the service. Food is pretty good. They have a special couple nights a week where you get a bottle of wine and 2 entrees for only $35 …somthing like that. Anyway, it is hit or miss. It used to be great, but I guess they got a lot of people going for that now so the menu has changed and just ok. I will order from the full menu for now on. I head the scallops dish is good and will try this soon.”
Mark L. / Washingtonville, NY:

“My wife and I visited Captain Jakes on Friday the 4th, throughly enjoyed the view of the Hudson river, it must be even more amazing during the spring and summer, will be back to see it. The seafood was excellent, as was the service, despite it being very busy at the time.
I highly reccommned this resturant.”
Tim R. / Newburgh, NY:
“I went to Captin Jake’s on a Monday night. I was just going out with some friends for wings and beer. The atmosphere at the bar was great and the staff was friendly. I got French onion soup and buffalo wings. My friend got the bourbon chicken. The food was great.”

“I found this wonderful place by accident we attended a wine party there and the food is fabulous. We can’t stay away to long, I have been going every other week. We love everything so far.
The staff is friendly and helpful. We have met great people, the view outside is awesome. You have got to come and experience this for yourself you will love it to.”
Aaron C. / Monroe, NY:
“Captain Jake’s is located on the elegant newburgh waterfront on front street. I was impressed and quite surprised seeing the newburg water front for the first time, amazing area and a view to die for. We started with the char broiled oysters which were amazing and basically melted in our mouths. That was definitely the highlight of our meal. Everything else was great, just make sure you show up early as the place tends to fill during dinner and lunch times.
Great place, great atmosphere, great food.”
Jen J. / Bronx, NY:
“I visited Captain Jake’s for the first time in October 2011. The service was very good and I have no complaints. I ordered the cod entree with seafood stuffing along with one of their specialty martinis and, I must say, both were excellent. Although I cannot specifically recall my fiance’s order, he thoroughly enjoyed his food, as well.
We certainly will consider a return visit very soon!”
Anne C. / Fishkill, NY:
“Stopped in Monday evening for an early dinner and this place was great. Sat outside and enjoyed the summer like temperature and the view of the Hudson. Very nice wine selection and excellent food.
Enjoyed some Chardonnay and Pinot & Toi and my husband enjoyed a couple of French reds.
No complaints with any of them. The bread, appetizers, dinners, desserts, wines, service……….all 5 star.
We will definitely be going back!”
